Folks,
The US Government is trying hard to cover it up, but they do not have a handle on the Mad Cow disease (BSE) situation yet:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2004/01/05/national1528EST0621.DTL

In short:
1. They do not know where the cows are that came from the infected herd up in Alberta, Canada
2. They do not know about the offspring off the cows from the infected Canadian herd
3. They only know about the one infected cow in Washington
4. Infected meat has been sold to SF Bay Area markets and restaurants
5. Scientists do not agree about the safety of eating meat from infected cows

Right now it seems that our government is more interested in protecting the Beef Industry than its citizens.

I'll post more info later, when the news changes.

EDIT: Unknown Date

There was a news update about 23 of the original 71 cows in Canada having been found, but the post was eliminated.

EDIT: January 29, 2004:

28 total cows have now been found:

Bus has proposed additional funding for Mad Cow (BSE) testing, which is a very good thing. Smile

EDIT: Febuary 9, 2004:

US Government officially gives up search for mad cows, with 52 of 81 still unaccounted for and 11 of those believed contaminated with BSE.
